For context, many...Thank you for the clarification. For context, many SAS users access and manipulate data exclusively through SAS code bypassing the spreadsheet editor completely. The most common way to save data to the ".SAS7BDAT" format completely through code is using the "DATA step" statement which behaves very similar to SQL's SELECT statement.

While SAS has a macro/scripting language, I'd imagine it would be highly unusual for someone to program data manipulations through a spreadsheet editor, rather than dropping data directly through code.

I don't know the underlying issue here, but it sounds like an issue limited to manual edits from data editor.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7890764972166411105.post-62069067152614550532021-11-04T17:44:04.272+01:002021-11-04T17:44:04.272+01:00The cancer lab I worked at transformed all patient...The cancer lab I worked at transformed all patient names to ID codes right at the start, and never used patient names in *any* data documents. The key that connected patient names to IDs was kept locked up in a cabinet where only 2 people could access it.

This proved very helpful when I joined the group; I could make a clear case that I had no access to patient identifying information, which exempted me from a lot of onerous requirements. I strongly recommend it to biomedical researchers. Your bug is yet another reason why.

MaryKayehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01565843342158991289noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7890764972166411105.post-43226800602248306932021-11-03T20:39:54.770+01:002021-11-03T20:39:54.770+01:00I am not very familiar with the various tools in S...I am not very familiar with the various tools in SAS. I have only used SAS University Edition and its successor, SAS OnDemand for Academics. In those, you edit a table of data in a window that looks a bit like a spreadsheet, then you save the file when your changes are done. But I suppose it's equally possible that the error could have occurred if a script told SAS to, for example, open the participant data table, remove the names, and save.Nick Brownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07481236547943428014noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7890764972166411105.post-20198515599697734652021-11-03T00:01:06.442+01:002021-11-03T00:01:06.442+01:00Can you clarify what you mean by "SAS data ed...Can you clarify what you mean by "SAS data editor"? I linked to it mostly for completeness. I went through it with every search term that I could think of and didn't find anything, and the comments of the SAS support person confirm that it isn't in there.Nick Brownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07481236547943428014noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7890764972166411105.post-24245024220669732252021-11-02T19:11:00.830+01:002021-11-02T19:11:00.830+01:00There are several hundred issues in that fix list,...There are several hundred issues in that fix list, do you have the actual Issue # specifically? I wonder if this is related to files that were created with versioning/auditing enabled which would make some sens e then to have this type of data included.
Data_Geekhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03940589054071711952noreply@blogger.com
